Tips On How To Achieve Your Dream Through Your Team

If your dream must work, your team must work. For it is your result that determines your report; it is your work that determines your worth. The principle of team work is one of the oldest secrets of success of any enterprise or organization. It is one of the cheapest ways to succeed as a body. It is a common secret that produces uncommon results. Everyone is unique, however, inspite of our uniqueness, we cannot succeed on our own. There are certain things in life that I can do which you can never do and there are things you can do that I can never do but when we come together as a team, we easily triumph. Understand that, without teamwork results cannot be produced and when results are unavailable, insults are unavoidable.

WHAT IS A TEAM & TEAM WORK?
The ideal team is a group of people possessing team Spirit and working together to achieve a common goal.

Team work speaks of the ability to work together as a team/group.

QUALITIES OF A TEAM
The above definition of a team is incomplete without the necessary qualities which makes for an effective and winning team. Basically, a winning team MUST possess the following:

1. COMMON GOAL (VISION)
Any group of people can be regarded as a team however, what differentiates a winning team from any other team is the fact that it has a common goal/vision which brings them together under one canopy thus giving direction to the entire group. Without a clear-cut vision, the team is bound for frustration/confusion.

2. COMMITMENT
Commitment is the factor/attribute that separates doers/champions from dreamers. It is the driving force in a leader that keeps his eyes on the goal no matter what comes his way. True commitment inspires and attracts people and it is contagious. It starts in the heart. It is tested by action. And it opens the door to achievement. If you want to go anywhere worthwhile, you must be committed.

3. CO-OPERATION
Co-operation simply means working together with commitment to achieve a common goal. It means collective or combined operation, that is, collecting individual operation to form a combined operation that yields the desired result. Understanding the uniqueness and importance of every member of the team fosters co-operation.

Note: TEAM-Together Everyone Achieves More

SEAL-Separately Everyone Achieves Less

(4) COMMUNICATION
The winning team maintains clear lines of communication. Communication builds commitment which fosters co-operation thus, achieving the common goal with ease. This is the bedrock of every team success and it is carried out by keeping your people informed (making them know exactly where the team stands), communicating face to face and in group context and seeking to resolve conflicts as quickly as possible. Note that, when they could not understand each other, the project of Babel was terminated.

(5) COMMUNITY SPIRIT
What makes a team win is the development of a sense of community Spirit. It is a sense of togetherness which makes all members of the team a part of that community. It is however developed and enhanced by the use of the pronouns we and our thus, eliminating I and my. Also, spending time together as a team facilitates and develops community Spirit

PURPOSE/BENEFITS OF TEAM WORK
The following shows the purpose and benefits of team work:

1. Effectiveness and Efficiency
2. Growth and expansion
3. Eliminates stress and fatigue
4. Builds confidence
5. Continuity
6. Support

TEAM BUILDERS
The qualities of a winning team can be seen also as factors necessary for effective team building. However, there are others needed to become a winning team.

1. Integrity/Trust: Your team will follow through if you are true.
2. Agreement: Agreement is the mother of achievement.
3. Respect: When people respect someone as a person, the admire him, when they respect him as a friend, they love him; and when they respect him as a leader, they follow him.

4. Empowerment
5. Sacrifice
6. Encouragement
7. Exemplary Living

You need people and you need God (most importantly). Success is a collection of relationships. Your future is connected to people, likewise the success of your office is connected to people. Instead of building walls, spend more time building bridges. Remember, team work will make your dream work.

Understanding And Relating Positively With Yourself

"Without misunderstanding, they say, there cannot be refined understanding". However, misunderstandings are as a result of improper understanding of, may be, a person's nature. Every one has areas of strengths and weaknesses but our success in life and relationships is traceable to where our focus lies (on the strengths or weaknesses). It is easier to accept a person's weaknesses or peculiarities if we realize that they stem from temperament. We can also learn to anticipate behaviour and try to avoid unnecessary conflicts. It is important to note that no one temperament is better than another; they all contain strengths and weaknesses.

TEMPERAMENTS: WHAT IT IS

The dictionary defines it as "the emotional part of someone's character". Temperament is the combination of traits inherited from our parents. Its root can be said to be in the mind (emotional center). However there are certain facts about temperaments. They are:
1. You are born with it
2. It determines your behaviour
3. It cannot be changed but can be trained (modified)

WHAT IT IS NOT?
1. It is not character: Character is the real you. Character is influenced by your temperament but it is not your temperament in itself. Character is our civilized temperaments.
2. It is not your personality: Personality is the outward expression of ourselves, which may or may not be the same as our character. It is the face we show others.

WHY TEMPERAMENTS?

An understanding of the temperament theory is very important because
1. It breeds agreement via understanding
2. It enhances achievement
3. It facilitates commitment
4. It helps you discover your most pronounced strengths and weaknesses and take advantage of your strengths.

THE BASIC TEMPERAMENTS

There are four (4) basic temperaments. However, everyone has at least one(1) dominant and one or two secondary temperaments. We will briefly consider the four (4) basic temperaments which are:

1. The Sanguine: Derived its name from its rich, warm blood (lively). A warm, buoyant, lively, fun loving and enjoying person. Receptive by nature, external impressions easily find their way to the heart, where they cause an outburst of response. Feelings rather than reflective thoughts predominate to form his decision. His talk usually precedes his thought (he talks before thinking). The sanguine is so outgoing, the life of the party and usually considered a Super extrovert. The sanguine never lacks for friends. He can genuinely feel the joys and sorrows of the person he meets and has the capacity to make him feel important, as though he were a very special friend - and he is, as long as he is looking at you. Then he fixes his eyes with equal intensity on the next person he meets.
STRENGTHS: Warm emotionally, friendly, fun-loving, Outgoing (extrovert), Enthusiastic, talkative, compassionate, responsive, stimulating, ambitious.
WEAKNESSES: Indiscipline, Weak-willed, Egotistical, Emotionally excitable, Unstable, Prone to exaggerate, Hot tempered, disorganized, Manipulative, restless.

2. The Choleric: Derived its name from the predominant body fluid (Choler or yellow bile) (active). A hot, quick, active, practical, strong willed, self sufficient and very independent person. He tends to be decisive, finding it very easy to make decisions for both himself and other people. He is an extrovert but not so intense. He thrives so much on activity. Unemotional by nature, he hardly sympathizes with people. He does not need to be stimulated by his environment, but rather stimulates his environment with his endless ideas, plans, goals and ambitions. He is not frightened by adversities, in facts, they tend to encourage him. His dogged determination usually allows him to succeed where others have failed.
STRENGTHS: Strong-willed, determined, independent, decisive, active and energetic, practical, strong natural leader, optimistic and confident, productive, goal-oriented.
WEAKNESSES: Unemotional and cold, self sufficient, impetuous, domineering, unforgiving, Hostile and volatile, sarcastic and cruel, impatient, unsympathetic, opinionated.

3. The Melancholy: Derived its name from the predominant body fluid (melancholy or black bile) (Black). This is the richest of all temperaments. An analytical self-sacrificing, gifted, perfectionist type of person with a very sensitive emotional nature. An introvert by nature but since his feelings predominate, he is given to a variety of moods. Though a faithful friend, he does not make friends easily. He is perhaps the most dependable of all temperaments, for his perfectionist tendencies do not permit him to let others down when they are counting on him. Disappointing experiences make him reluctant to take people at face value, thus he is prone to be suspicious when others seek him out or shower him with attention. He usually finds his greatest meaning in life through personal sacrifice.
STRENGTHS: Gifted, Analytical, perfectionist, self-sacrificing, self-disciplined, industrious, aesthetic, creative, sensitive, loyal and faithful.
WEAKNESSES: Moody, deeply emotional, easily offended, pessimistic, negative, critical and picky, theoretical and impractical, suspicious and revengeful, self-centered, indecisive.

4. The Phlegmatic: Derived its name from its predominant body fluid (Phlegm) (Slow). A calm, easy-going, never-get-upset individual with a well-balanced temperament. He has a very high boiling point and almost never becomes angry and seldom explodes in laughter but keeps his emotions under control, though he feels more emotion than appears on the surface. He is the easiest type of person to get along with and by nature the most likable of all temperaments. However, he tries not to get involved with the activities of others and is a super introvert by nature. They have a conciliating effect on others and are natural peacemakers. They are masters at anything that requires meticulous patience and daily routine.
STRENGTHS: Calm and cool, easygoing, diplomatic, dependable, objective, efficient, orderly, practical, humorous, agreeable.
WEAKNESSES: Passive and unmotivated, subject to procrastination, indecisive, fearful and filled with worry, unsure, self-protective, stubborn, selfish, stingy, slow and lazy.

OTHER BLENDS
We all have a blend of at least two temperaments: One predominates; the other is secondary, although there are exceptions. However, there are varying degrees of temperaments within the blends. Some of the primary blends using the 60% for the predominant temperament and 40% for the secondary temperament are: SanChlor, SanMel, SanPhleg, ChlorSan, ChlorMel, ChlorPhleg, MelSan, MelChlor, MelPhleg, PhlegSan, PhlegChlor and PhlegMel.

BASIC WEAKNESSES
In spite of the numerous weaknesses of the basic temperaments, there are two that stands out. The sanguine and choleric are more prone to ANGER which is their basic weakness.

Likewise the melancholy and Phlegmatic are prone to FEAR. A major weakness that affects all the temperaments is SELFISHNESS.

Repositioning Your Attitude For A New Altitude

Life's battle is won when the attitude battle is won. The difference between a success and a failure is traceable to the attitude they have towards life. Your attitude, they say, determines your altitude in life. However, if you carry the winning attitude, you can never be a destitute in life. Your "inlook" (attitude) will always determine you outlook. So get excited about life, because it takes excitement to excel. Change your attitude and shortly, your difference will make you a reference positively.

ATTITUDE: WHAT IT IS
Attitude, whether positive or negative, is an inward feeling expressed by behavior. That is why an attitude can be seen without a word been spoken. It is not your reputation but it determines your reputation. It is also not charisma.

6. It can give us a positive perspective.

FACTORS THAT INFLUENCE ATTITUDE
Everyone influences and is being influenced from time to time. However, you determine the extent of your influence and to which you are influenced. The factors have a positively strong influence on our attitudes:

(i) Personality (who I am)
(ii) Environment (What is around me)
(iii) Word Expression (What I hear)
(iv) Affirmation (What I feel)
(v) Self image (How I see myself)
(vi) Association (Who influences me)
(vii) Physical Appearance (How we look at others)

MAKE-UP OF THE WINNING ATTITUDE
A study of the men and women who made impact, it is revealed that they possessed the following:

1. Faith Attitude (Confidence/Courage)
2. Praise Attitude (Joy/Internal gladness)
3. Love Attitude (Genuine Affection)
4. Patience Attitude

RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN HABITS AND ATTITUDES
According to Dr. John Maxwell,
Thoughts - Meditated thoughts - Decision - Actions - Continued action - Habits - Attitude/character
Your habits are what determine your attitude and your attitude determines your future.

Your name, certificate, qualification, titles, position, achievement, etc are all good but one thing is more important and that is having a WINNING ATTITUDE. Without it you never win in life. So get excited, stay excited, stay ignited because there is more to life than what we seen now.

"If you want to be distressed - Look within
If you want to be defeated - Look back
If you want to be distracted - Look around
If you want to be dismayed - Look ahead
If you want to be delivered - Look Up "

The attribute (quality) of your attitude (character) influences your aptitude (ability) to enhance your altitude (height).

Tips On How To Win The Internal Wars

There are so many secrets of success in any endeavor in life but of all the secrets, the first step to absolute/total success is having a proper self-esteem. Because it determines how well the other secrets of success will work for you.

The building of a proper self-esteem is a must if anyone hopes to achieve success in whatever he/she is doing. It is a mobile force which motivates an individual towards the achievement of any set goal.

Self-esteem as defined by the dictionary is simply "Pride in yourself". Self-esteem also connotes the following:
1. Self-Respect: Placing value on yourself.
2. Self-Acceptance: Being yourself without compromise and accepting yourself just as you are.
3. Self-Love: Loving yourself in spite of other's opinion about you.
4. Self-Ego: having a high opinion about/of yourself
5. Self-Worth: the price/value you place on yourself.

Self-esteem, in general, is the value/price you place on yourself. It should be noted that it doesn't take away character/humility. It is the ability to transfer your value onwards thus bridging other people. "Let no man despise you" because "if you are despised, you will be deprived of your rights/needs/benefits."

By virtue of the wrong notion many people have about self-esteem. Many tend to think that a person with a proper self-esteem is a proud person. The following are the qualities of a proud person, thus differentiating him from one with a proper self-esteem:
1. Self-Centeredness: He only thinks about himself. His focus is only on himself and not on others.
2. Self-Seeking: He always works to his own advantage at the expense of others. He simply uses men and dumps them without making them.
3. Egocentric: He only thinks about himself thus making him an egoist (a person who only thinks of himself) and an egotist (one who only talks about oneself).
4. Selfishness: He is only interested in himself and only does something for himself.

The above qualities puts a clear difference between one with a healthy self-esteem and a person with an unhealthy self-esteem.

HOW TO BUILD A HEALTHY SELF-ESTEEM
It is worthy to note that a man with a healthy self-esteem attracts people to himself while the proud (one with an unhealthy self-esteem) repels people. Therefore building a healthy self-esteem is mandatory for all and care must be taken not to fall on the wrong (negative) side. Here are some basic ways to building a healthy self-esteem.
1. See yourself: Discover, know and believe in yourself and your potentials via scriptural adventure.
2. Be yourself: After seeing yourself, then become who you have seen in you. No room for imitation because imitation is limitation.
3. Free yourself: Release yourself from everything that would want to hinder you from becoming the person you have seen in you.

Other ways are:
1. Self-Love: This produces self-worth.
2. Self-acceptance.
3. Concentrate on your areas of strengths because low self-esteem is born when your weaknesses becomes your focus.
4. Invest in your knowledge. This is very important in building a healthy self-esteem.
5. Do not brag or else pride will set in and drag you down.
6. Find a successful role model (mentor) basically someone who has conquered what you fear.
7. Always carry a positive attitude about yourself because it will determine your altitude.
8. Avoid the company of those whose language drains you of your positive mentality, since, your mentality is tied to your self-esteem.
9. Do not fight to maintain your status with anyone. Just avoid them.
10. Dare to promote someone else's self-esteem. Esteem others high and achieve your goal of a healthy self-esteem.

HOW TO INCREASE SOMEONE ELSE'S SELF-ESTEEM
It is said that you achieve what you want when you help many others achieve what they want. What you make happen for other, God will make happen for you. So to help others achieve a healthy self-esteem.
1. Look for opportunities to build up people.
2. Separate the performance from the performer.
3. Criticize the performance, praise the performer.
4. Always reprimand the performance in private because public disapproval is the worst form of punishment and leads to low self-esteem.

CAUSES OF LOW SELF-ESTEEM
Amongst many other, one vital cause of low self-esteem is FEAR. That is,
1. Fear of Rejection
2. Fear of Change
3. Fear of Success

This is basically one of the causes of low self-esteem in an individual. But some other causes of low self-esteem in follower via the leaders are:
(i) Failure to give credit for suggestions
(ii) Failure to correct grievances
(iii) Failure to encourage
(iv) Criticizing follower in front of other people
(v) Failure to inform followers of their progress
(vi) Failure to ask followers their opinion
(vii) Favouritism
(viii) Stealing their ego's food, that is, the satisfaction of their needs for self-esteem.

The issue of a healthy self-esteem is of great importance in life's adventure. It is a necessary companion for everyone who wishes to succeed in life's endeavour. Without it you are left without (outside) the camp of success. To despise this issue is to be deprived of success. A healthy self-esteem will make your world hold you in high-esteem. Go for it, otherwise, you will loose your seat in your generation. Building it is your responsibility or else you become a liability.

How To Make Your Twenty Four Hours Your Friend

In the school of success and in leadership, the TIME factor is a vital factor that distinguishes a champion from a failure. Time is the currency on earth hence, the common saying, "Time is money". In other words, whatever you get out of life, you traded time for it. Time is an asset of equality, everyone has twenty-four (24) hours. Your success is determined by how well you are able to use, invest and manage your time. Time management leads to proper/successful life management which culminates in successful people management (Leadership)

Webster defines time as" the system of sequential relations that any event has to any other, as past, present or future "or" a system or method of measuring or reckoning the passage of time". Dr. Myles Munroe said "time is a temporary interruption of eternity"

Time management can be seen as "the day by day process of planned and controlled use of time through the elimination of time wasters and utilization of time savers, goals, priorities, schedules and delegations".

“"Where purpose is not known, abuse is inevitable" says Dr. Myles Munroe. This goes to say that when the purpose of managing time is not know, a damaging life (leader) is inevitable. Time management is not an option, it is a must for the following reasons:
1. To increase effectiveness and efficiency in the right way.
2. To enhance a peaceful and fulfilling life.
3. To achieve good stewardship of God-given gifts and opportunities.
4. To maintain good health.

Effective time management is highly dependent on your attitude towards time. Everyone has developed an attitude towards time, consciously or unconsciously and they fall into one of the following categories:
1. The Drifter (always postponing/procrastinating)
2. The Workaholic (always working without rest)
3. The Enlightened Manager (strikes a balance)
However, everyone is either a time spender or a time investor. What you become in the process of time is traceable to the group you belong to. If you invest your time, you will definitely harvest with time.
Note: For the drifter, do not keep what you can do today for tomorrow. Tomorrow itself has its assignment.

A proper knowledge of these rules will help you rule your time thereby ruling your life. Because it is either you run your day or your day will run you. You must gain mastery over time or else it will gain mastery over you.
1. SELF KNOWLEDGE
A knowledge of yourself is of paramount importance. Know yourself, it is the key to effective time management. In other word, find out when you are most energetic and effective. Also, know the areas you are best fitted for and stick to it.
2. TIME KNOWLEDGE
This speaks in relation to season, that is, the time of action. It is not enough to know WHAT to do, it is also important to know WHEN to do it. In his book, The 21 irrefutable laws of leadership , Dr. John Maxwell illustrates the outcome of every move a leader makes with respect to time.
Wrong Action at Wrong Time = Disaster
Right Action at Wrong Time = Resistance
Wrong Action at Right Time = Mistake
Right Action at Right Time = Success

3. SELF-MANAGEMENT (Discipline)
Effective people management begins from effective self-management which is born from effective time management. Self-management tells on your ability to properly discipline yourself because discipline makes you a star in your discipline. You can only control your time if you can control yourself
4. CREATE A DAILY PLAN
Every day has 24hours, give each hour an assignment. If you fail to plan your day, men will help you plan it. Outline what you want to achieve daily and follow through.

It is very important that you identify the things that steals your time and deal with them if you must succeed in life. Some possible time wasters are:
(i) Drop in visitors
(ii) Indecision/procrastination
(iii) Many meetings
(iv) Inability to say “'NO'
(v) Lack of delegations
(vi) No goal settings
(vii) Incomplete tasks
(viii) Scattered desk/personal disorganization
(ix) Doing too much
(x) Doing non-essentials (majoring on the minors)
(xi) Lack of planning
(xii) Over involvement in details
(xiii) Perfectionist tendencies.

TIME SAVERS
(i) Use of daily plan
(ii) Do not over schedule
(iii) Use deadlines
(iv) Learn to say “'NO' in pleasant ways.
(v) Delegate well

Dr. Mike Murdock said’ “"Yesterday is in the tomb, tomorrow is in the womb, today is all you have got so trade wisely with it." If you have no value for time you will have no value in life. The hard work of today is made up of the simple tasks that were not done yesterday. Manage your time and your life will be successfully managed but to mismanage your time is to cause great damage to your life and future.

Rediscover your TRUE IDENTITY

Am yet to see a person who does not care about love? Either to be loved or to love. But that is not all about you. You are more than what you are, you are more than what other people say you are. You are not a weakling. One of our greatest challenge is that we do not know how to love ourselves, I mean personal love that comes from within you not from your parents, relatives, friends, etc but from yourself. We all wait or depend on others both male and female to show us love or to love us. That is why when the reverse is the case, that is when others fail to love us, we get very upset. But if we can only take a trip into ourselves and discover what great treasures lie within us, all the glorious talents, grace and even love that we are made of, we would not only appreciate our Maker but ourselves and other. Instead of waiting to be loved, learn to love.

Looking into yourself will help you build a high self esteem, it will help you to think better of yourself and your ability. I must say here that the way you see yourself affects what you do. It is commonly said that the way you see yourself is the way others will see you. It is true you cannot see all about yourself by yourself but you see all about yourself when God is involved in your life and action. You need the knowledge of the One who created you. God and no other can help bring out the very best in you. For it is what you appreciate and value in yourself that others will appreciate and value. This is because you help others see the beauty you carry inside. Are you looking for the beauty you possess, look no farther, there is a full package of beauty on your inside waiting for you to open it and reveal its contents to the world.

The image and picture you see and carry about yourself must be refined and redefined so you could fulfill destiny. Self pity is very dangerous, it is destructive, it takes the best of you, prevents you from fulfilling your purpose and leaves you with no real friends except those with self pity too.

It is time to boost your self worth by going to work on yourself. Discover who you really are and work at becoming the best you can be. A trip within is worth taking for it is breath taking as you would come in contact with the UNCOMMON YOU.

Great lessons on how to improve your self esteem can be gleaned from the materials below
